Distribution:

Breeding hints:
I am not aware of breeding reports for Dorcus caucasicus. I guess that the breeding of this species is similar to the breeding of Dorcus parallelopipedus. Eggs will be laid into relatively hard white rotten wood. Temperature should be low.

Hi Daniel,
to be frank, I also do not have an answer. I received my specimen as Dorcus caucasicus, but learned through your link that this species does not exist.
Luckily, we can rule out Dorcus brevis, which looks different, apart from being from a different continent. I have seen ‘Dorcus caucausicus’ offered by some insect collectors on the insect fair in Prague, but if it simply is a synonym, it leaves us with D. parallelopipedus. I am not aware of similar species otherwise.
Sorry that I am not able to help you with your quest.
Warm regards
Benjamin
